In partnership with the SC Arts Commission, the Athenaeum Press is expanding the Communal Pen community writing workshops. This initiative showcases short stories to explore the dynamic and ever-changing state of South Carolina. We create space for, amplify, and connect the state's diverse voices through writing workshops, publications, and a digital platform.

Since we partnered with the Communal Pen initiative in 2023, we have digitized over 300 stories from storytellers from around the state, published an anthology (Snapshots of South Carolina), and conducted over 30 virtual and in-person workshops. We'll be announcing our 2025-26 full workshop schedule soon, where you can experience the power of creating a story in ten minutes or less.
